Job Description Position: Program Coordinator

 

Supervisor: Penticton Safety Village Manager

 

Hours: Approximately 35 hours per week for May and June, 2022. Monday-Friday

Rate of Pay: $17.00 per hr

 

Start: May 2, 2022 – June 30th, 2022

 

Overview:

Penticton Safety Village is a mini village setting with road networks, sidewalks, an array of traffic configurations including real traffic lights, buildings, a classroom and a Fire Safety House. We welcome school, preschool, childcare and community groups to our facility to learn and practice bike, pedestrian and fire safety with our enthusiastic instructors. For many children it is their first experience on a bike and learning about fire safety. We work closely with volunteer and professional firefighters to deliver

comprehensive home fire safety education. We aim to explain, demonstrate and interact with those that come to learn at the Safety Village, our mission is for every child and adult to leave with an understanding of safety in their home and the community. We also aim to foster a lifelong love of biking as an active and safe mode of transportation. We are a non-profit organization and greatly appreciate all the support we receive from the community.

 

Position:

This is a fun and active position that combines instructing children, administrative tasks associated with our school bike and fire education planning and facility maintenance. A typical day starts at 8:30am and will see you on your feet outdoors all morning. Afternoon administrative tasks may be completed at home. It requires a love of biking, ability to work and lead young children, and steadfast reliability for a short but intensive 2-month contract. The Program Coordinator will work with the Safety Village Manager to deliver programming and independently in the afternoons on facility and administrative tasks

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Kindergarten to Grade 2 bike, pedestrian and traffic safety programs on life-like streets and buildings in the Safety Village

  • Helping to schedule and coordinate school visits along with the weekend activities and promotional community events.

  • Assist with administrative tasks that pertain to non-profit work such as fundraising; correspondence; event planning; social media management; budgeting and AGM preparation; and community outreach and stewardship.

  • Support for maintaining the grounds, minor bike maintenance, and facility organization and cleanliness.

 

Bike safety specific training will be provided as well as support to accomplish administrative tasks. No prior knowledge of non-profit management is required. Experience with above responsibilities is not required as the aim of this position is to offer teaching and non-profit management experience.

 

Qualifications:

  • Between the ages of 17 and 29. This position is not grant dependent but as we are hoping to resource this position via the Canada Summer Jobs Program, the age requirement is in place.

  • Ability to work with children and lead large groups

  • Comfortable with instructing and speaking in front of school groups

  • Good computer skills including social media management, and some knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Ability to work independently

  • Willingness to complete cleaning, ground maintenance and light bike repair duties

  • Must be extremely reliable for entire month of May and June.
